September: Cute Hippie Chick Of The Month

Woah! What the... how did that picture get in there?
That's our buddy Bob, from over at "Striking Thoughts". This being an election year and all, Bob has nominated himself to the official "Committee to Elect Hippie Chicks" (CEHC) here at Dojo Rat. Check out Bob's dynamic presentation of Hillbilly Martial Arts at this link!

But now, Here's the picture I was looking for; September's "Cute Hippie Chick Of The Month"

*** And lastly; I've been a little short of posts lately, I've been working on a very big project that will be detailed later in the week-- Keep checking back!

Thanks for the Hippy Chicks and I want to wish everyone a Happy Labor Day!

While you're chowing down on your freshly grilled burgers, hot dogs and chicken, be sure to take a moment to reflect on what this day means. It's more than just the last blow-out of the summer.

It's a day when we should recall those true working class heroes like Big Bill Haywood, Mother Jones, Joe Hill and others who worked and often risked their lives to give American workers the things we take for granted.

Things like Family Medical Leave, minimum wage, occupational health and safety regulations, an end to child labor, workman's compensation and others such programs were not gifts granted at the beneficence of the bosses of corporate America. Brave men and women fought and often died for those things that we are in such danger of losing due to apathy and hopelessness.

So when you're done with your burgers and dogs, take a little time to think back on these words which inspired workers throughout the world to take a stand in their own defense.

"The working class and the employing class have nothing in common. There can be no peace so long as hunger and want are found among millions of the working people and the few, who make up the employing class, have all the good things of life.

"Between these two classes a struggle must go on until the workers of the world organize as a class, take possession of the means of production, abolish the wage system, and live in harmony with the Earth.

"We find that the centering of the management of industries into fewer and fewer hands makes the trade unions unable to cope with the ever growing power of the employing class. The trade unions foster a state of affairs which allows one set of workers to be pitted against another set of workers in the same industry, thereby helping defeat one another in wage wars. Moreover, the trade unions aid the employing class to mislead the workers into the belief that the working class have interests in common with their employers.

"These conditions can be changed and the interest of the working class upheld only by an organization formed in such a way that all its members in any one industry, or in all industries if necessary, cease work whenever a strike or lockout is on in any department thereof, thus making an injury to one an injury to all.

"Instead of the conservative motto, 'A fair day's wage for a fair day's work,' we must inscribe on our banner the revolutionary watchword, 'Abolition of the wage system.'

"It is the historic mission of the working class to do away with capitalism. The army of production must be organized, not only for everyday struggle with capitalists, but also to carry on production when capitalism shall have been overthrown. By organizing industrially we are forming the structure of the new society within the shell of the old."

- From the Preamble to the Constitution of the Industrial Workers of the World, 1906.

Thank you very much, today is a celebration of the working class, for sure.
If it wasn't also Cute Hippie Chick Of The Month Day, I would have tried to get a Labor Day note in also.
Thanks again!

H2H,
You sound like a Democrat ;) .. Let me get Darth Cheney on it, expect a tax audit you least expect it .. or maybe a 2000 pound JDAM or maybe .. anything else the Emperor commands ;)

< queue music >

That was well put, as a war vet and now a JOBLESS war vet (hence the ton of posts) you'd think they'd at least take care of their own.

< /queue music >

I don't agree with everything you said, more often than not we disagree enough to keep this board interesting .. but you hit this nail on this head.

Even though my 1st cousin has the "Chicago in" with Obama via her husband and goes to Washington if ..

We are at war, I just don't see Obama at saving my fellow brothers' lives. But Obama would help them when they got back.

Couple YIN/YANGS (UM/YANGs) huh?

I'm voting for the hippie chick. Because If I fotta get screwed I wanna enjoy it. :)

Hey SBNP,

I used to be a Democrat, but left in disgust due to that party's rightward drift under Clinton.

As I told my father on Election Day 2000, "If Al Gore needs my vote, he should have thought of it before he cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of NAFTA."

I'm sure my name is already on a ton of shitlists. My former office was under the flight path of Tampa International Airport. Every time Air Force One flew overhead during the 2004 election, I bet George W. Bush, looked out the window, then turned to the seat next to him and said "Gee Mr. Cheney, that nice guy down there still thinks we're Number One!"

But you're right - the way that returning vets are being treated sucks.

Still, despite my left-ward leaning politics, most of my friends are of a more conservative/libertarian bent. My hobbies (martial arts and shooting) tend to attract those types politically.

Colin Wee;
Thanks for checking in, please disregard the comments of the Rabble and unwashed masses--
--In case you are new to Dojo Rat, "Cute Hippie Chick Of The Month" is a long tradition in this blog, ask Patrick at Mokuren Dojo, it's because of a hippie comment he made long ago. In the sense of fun, I turned it into a fun feature.
