Black Horse Tai Chi Chuan

Tip of the hat to the guys over at "The Rum-Soaked Fist", where I found this guy.
His name is Casey Payne and he runs "Black Horse Tai Chi". From his website, it looks like he trained in Taiwan, and he's a damned good athlete. It looks like he specializes in push hands, and as you can see it serves him well in his first Chinese "Shuai Jiao" Chinese wrestling competition.
One of his posts says he is attempting to bring all the Tai Chi schools in Milwaukee Wisconsin together in a unified spirit of fellowship and competition. I think he'd be a great guy to train with if you are in his area.

Here he is in a nice arm bar submission:

I'm going to watch his website for a while and it might end up on my links list.

Here's the link to his site: Black Horse Tai Chi

Great find - I need to learn more about "Chinese wrestling." I'm surmised to even find that in Wisconsin!

Then again, Sigung is in Michigan...

I will keep this marked new in Google Reader and add it to next week's news!

Damn - if I tried that arm bar I might blow a hip!

;-)

"Surprised." What can I say? Second beer on an empty stomach!

can you explain the goal of chinese wrestling? Looks like my son's high school wrestling where he applies Silat pressure to the arms.

Well, I think we saw two types of competition there.
The first was the Shuai Jiao Chinese Wrestling, the second appears to be more BJJ or submission wrestling (the one with the flying armbar).

I believe that in Chinese wrestling the object is more like Sumo; drive the opponent out of the ring or throw/sweep him for a takedown. I do not believe it involves ground wrestling, primarily takedowns as would be in a battlefield.
I have never practiced that style, but it's techniques can be found in Tai Chi Chuan and Bagua also.
The guy was very good at controlling the ring, and I think his Taiji push-hands practice shows.

hey,
unrelated, but I know you posted on police action before and thought you'd like to see this post on physical force by police...

Thanks for that.
It did seem like the second guy was asking for it, but I can't be sure.
In Seattle and elsewhere, the Cops have bee hitting, stomping and in some cases shooting unarmed people.
Bad training???

Where is the second video Dojo? It looks very familiar but I can't place it. Also it was an amazing armbar he must have been able to sync that one in because it was over before I even saw what was going on. I would love to see video from the opposite angle also.

Me too.
That's all we got.

hmmm, I think I'd love to see my son try shuai jiao! He's had great success applying Silat pressure and control aspects to wrestling. surprises and confuses much bigger opponents. He may try Judo this summer too.
