The Evil Eye: Real And Measurable

According to this article in Yahoo news, Dr. Colin A. Ross explains how to measure the eye's electromagnetic energy.
From the article:

"Although nearly everyone has experienced the sense of being stared at only to find that a person or animal really was looking, Western science has long rejected that the human eye can emit any form of energy. Dr. Ross says his findings move "human ocular extramission," which he also refers to as an "eyebeam," from the realm of superstition to science.
"We used our patent pending Electromagnetic Beam Detection System, which includes modified EEG neurofeedback equipment, to prove that the human eye emits an electromagnetic signal that can be measured scientifically," said Dr. Ross. "I hope that future experiments will determine why energy emitted from the eye is so strong and whether it can be harnessed through focused attention."
Dr. Ross:

--And this:
"Dr. Ross previously made headlines by applying to the $1 Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge administered by the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) (http://www.randi.org/). Although Dr. Ross can prove that his eyebeam can make a tone sound out of a computer, JREF insists that no energy can be emitted from the eyes and mocked Dr. Ross with its Pigasus Award. JREF has not responded to Dr. Ross' test protocol."

(D.R.)-- This once again brings up the phenomena of "The no-touch knockout", which I have written about at this link. I believe it largely has to do with the power of suggestion, but there is definitely something going on...

This article reminds me of an aikidoka I met in college almost 25years ago. I wish I could remember his name so I could give him credit for this story he related to me.

His sensei related the following anecdote to help explain ki to his students.

"Suppose you're standing on a corner and all of a sudden, Kim Bassinger walks by. As she's going away from you, you stare at her posterior and think, 'Damn! She's got a a great ass!'

"As you're staring, thinking those thoughts, she stops dead in her tracks and shoots you a dirty look for staring at her like she's a piece of meat.

"That is an example of ki! As you're staring at her ass, you are projecting your ki at her. And, because she has ki, too, she is aware of your ki which is how she knew you were staring at her."

I've used this example to help explain chi or ki to students. However, since I first heard this example in 1986, I do change the story to use whomever is the current hot babe in pop culture.

A couple years ago, I was at the laundromat loading my van and I felt all the hairs go up on the back of my neck, my pulse went up and I'm sure my bp did also. I turned quickly and saw a man who was walking toward me suddenly turn and go in another direction. There was no reason (that I could see) for him to be that close to me.

I think that somehow or another I avoided a mugging that day.

I'm definitely a skeptic. The problem is that your eye or brain has no method to produce this energy. You can emit sound through some of your organs (specifically your lungs, throat, and mouth), but your eye has no mechanism to emit energy; instead it is only a passive receiver of light. It just CANNOT emit.

I'm guessing that you are the type who wants scientific proof of everything? :)

Well, here's one article that I found not too long ago:

Even the US Military from way back did some related research as depicted in "The Men Who Stare At Goats." Here's fun video:

Enjoy! :)
