My kitchen training experiences don't end up quite like this guys', but my ken has left plenty of dents/holes/scratches in my low Japanese ceiling ... I as well have yet to enter the dragon.
Years ago, a friend of mine was swinging a Chinese three-section staff around and hit himself just like the picture. He fell on the ground, almost knocked out. As he lay there, he happened to look under his couch. There he found a bag of weed he had lost a months earlier. He actually said "Thank you God!"
Do like I do and invite them to hit a tire. I used tires for weapons practice, because (just like empty hand training) you have to get used to hitting something to be ready for actual self defense.
On two occasions, I've laughed my ass off watching the nunchaku fly out of the guy's hand.
Sean; I've used tires also, they are very lively. I used it with an Aikido Boken, I can imagine they'd be pretty bouncy with chucks! You used tires for empty hand training??

Wanna have a little fun with these "chukkers"?
