William Visits Tim Cartmell @ Shen Wu

Fellow Dojo Rat William made a trip from Canada to Tim Cartmell's Shen Wu school for some great training. I had met William at Jake Burroughs' seminars in Seattle, and he put together a nice video of the type of training at Tim's school.
After studying for years in Taiwan, writing and translating several books on Chinese martial arts, Tim found a weakness in traditional arts. They had no ground game at all. Tim went on to excell in Brazilian Jujitsu, winning the Copa numerous times and winning a silver medal at the '05 Mundials in Brazil.
As you can see, Tims "Shen Wu" combines the stand-up fighting of Xingyi, Bagua and Tai Chi Chuan with BJJ.

Hello Dojo Friends, glad you liked the video. Itwas a great time and I hope to do it again soon. Tim mixes all ranges of figthing in every class and the level of skill of his students is second to none. The only thing that sucked about the video is the music. Big Brother was watching and he took it down until I changed the original soundtrack so now the music ends too soon. Other than that Tim's Da Man! Cheers

Nice video! I have made the pilgrimage to train at Shen Wu before as well. I think it has got to be one of the best schools for:

1. internal
2. bjj
3. any mix of judo/jujutsu
4. submissions grappling
5. mma
6. all of the above

I don't think there are many schools like that anywhere. You can find good schools for any one of 1-5, but not 6.

Thanks for checking in William! That was a great video showing Tim's diverse training methods. We worked on that headlock defense sacrifice throw last night, it works great and can be more of a slam than it appears.
All good stuff, hope to see you in Seattle again,
